Was the Euro 2020 group stage boring because too many teams could go through? Should England fear anyone? Do UEFA have a double standard when it comes to politics & football?
In this episode of the Straight Shootin' View, SSLJA discusses the general lack of entertainment provided by the group stages of the European championships and whether this has anything to do with so many teams being able to progress.
SSLJA looks at matches such as Czech Republic v England as an example of a match with no stakes and looks at Group F & the drama that group provided, due to every side in that group having the chance to progress, whilst 3 were at risk of elimination.
SSLJA also looks at England and the theory that they should've placed 2nd in their group to avoid a 'tougher' draw in the knockout stages, and he also look at UEFA not allowing the Allianz Arena to be lit up in Rainbow colours, due to that being a political statement in retaliation to Hungarian law changes, but UEFA were free to threaten taking the Euro 2020 semi finals & finals away from Wembley as a political threat to the UK Government.
